We've all "Gotta Serve Somebody." Bob Dylan's song about choice has resonated with me since I was a child growing up In Nebraska. I've lived and worked across the globe as a social worker, a college Instructor, a diplomat, a public sector leader, a lawyer, a consultant and a coach; I was a blues singer in Tokyo for a few years. No matter what hat I've worn, what I noticed, from Saudi Arabia to Kenya, Mexico to Japan, is that we're all making choices about who and what to serve.
In 2008 I got to hold His Holiness the Dalai Lama's hand. His presence washed over me, a kind of excruciating joy, a glimpse of what truly being present is like. My journey shifted from that moment. How could I be more present more often? How might I serve others in ways that help them be more present more often too?
In 2012 I launched inCourage Leading with a vision to develop leaders who want to Impact the common good, people who want to be part of creating a powerful positive ripple effect in workplaces, communities and countries. While I've coached artists and authors, technologists, public servants and corporate leaders, I gravitate toward those driven to lift the most vulnerable amongst us: the common good is part of how they see themselves and what they do from where they stand.
Certified by the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business Executive Coaching Institute, Gallup’s International School of Management, and the Nebraska Mediation Association, I also hold a license In the Winslow Behavioral Assessment System, and am certified as a teacher of English as a foreign language. My BA is in English and I earned a Juris Doctorate from the University of Nebraska College of Law. I've taught MBA-level leadership coaching and communications courses at the Olin School of Business, Washington University and speech and debate at Tokyo Foreign Language College.
